So I often come across brands that I truly admire because they seem to have done everything just right. Like local Kent brands Nip from the Hip and Simply Ice Cream for example. They care about their product quality, their packaging, their branding and they care about their image. Everything is consistent wherever you see them and they take things step by step to build their brand. And as a result they have become very successful in terms of brand awareness and sales growth. I love and support both of them as result.
Recently, I came across a deliciously perfect brand called The Lemon Square from Vancouver, Canada. Their product offering is really simple – a square of lemony biscuity loveliness. Their packaging is ingenious – simple, hand stamped and so unique. Their photography is awesome – again, simple and clear. I love their overall branding, a lot. It is so consistent no matter where you see them online (and no doubt off line). I love their attention to detail and extra little touches like yellow flowers placed on their event tables, their tiny perfectly square samples to try and how they use lemon and heart emojis on their social media updates. These all help make the brand memorable, to stand out and ultimately help to build their brand. This creation is simply perfect. Neat, eye catching and I’m sure delivers 100% on taste. We buy with our eyes and both the packaging and product really appeal to my eyes! I desperately want to try a Lemon Square but Vancouver is just too far away! Shame.
There is something so satisfying when you come across a brand where everything just seems to fit together. They have kept everything simple yet have put a lot of thought into their strategy, branding and consistency. They really do deserve to do well.
When it comes to building a brand, my advice is to take the time to think and plan. Start small, get everything right in the early stages, take the time to ensure everything is right and only then think about expansion.
I will be keeping my eyes peeled for more awesome artisan brands to profile. I love the fact that these small scale producers put their heart and soul into their brand and have passion and quality oozing out of them.
