Warning: Defining your vision could seriously transform your business

September 29, 2015

Do you have a well defined company vision? If you do, do you have it written or printed on a piece of paper and have it stuck to the wall of your office? (or have it as a screen saver?) No?  Well I recommend you try it. Why? Well, by focusing on your long term goal, and having that vision top of mind, it helps you stay on the correct path to success and stops you getting distracted.

If you have a clear vision you will…

  • Remain focused on what is important at all times.
  • Make strategic decisions
  • Be able to motivate your team to be behind one common goal.
  • Be able to define why you exist and why you stand out from your competition and have a compelling product to offer your customers.

So what exactly is a “company vision”?

Your company’s vision is a well crafted statement that describes in clear, simple terms how you see your business in the future – in five, ten or even more years’ time. It should be short and precise and should be inspirational, daring and exciting.

How do you write one?

To write a compelling vision, think about your ultimate end goal. When you get there, what will you have achieved and how will others describe you?

The key is to take the time to craft your statement carefully. Your vision needs to convey a lot in only a few words.  Be specific, not too generic; it should be relevant to you, not just any company.

'Writing your vision statement' will be a module included in The Artisan Academy brand building course. To sign up for more information about The Artisan Academy, please click here.
